Learned Things III: Can't Fix This

This video exclaims the GOSPEL to everyone. Our hall watched it last week, and it's been a blessing. A message that stuck out to me was "You can't fix it".
How many times in your life have you said, "I need to just fix my life, I need to fix my habits, I need to fix my desires, I need to fix myself, I need to fix...."?

We try to fix ourselves. You probably know what I'm talking about. When we try to do things on our own, and fix problems by ourselves it just doesn't work. We need accountability, and we need Someone who is in charge. Isn't it awesome that there is One person who already has everything taken care of? People problems? Meh. Stress problems? Psh. God's got it planned out. This life is so short, so small compared to what God sees ahead of us.

Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."

We can only be fixed through His help and guidance. Instead of getting really stressed out about life and the many difficulties the world tells us to fix on our own, ask God, "Break me. Teach me. I am Your's. I know life isn't perfect, so mold me into who You want me to be." This may mean that He will give you what you need rather than what you want.

Love you all!

Life is Running forward!

I haven't updated in a while, so I figured I'd post a few pictures (since I'm so good at that :p ).

At Liberty, you can make Happy Birthday posters for people. Kim's birthday isn't during the school year, so I made her a 1/2 birthday poster! :)
College students still eat Ramen, but instant mac 'n cheese in a bowl is now popular.
Our hall, our sister dorm and our brother dorm wore white one Friday during worship service to promote a concert to benefit Somalia.
My family visited!! It was great to talk with them again and see them. :) We walked around Lynchburg and it was beautiful!
Kim, Josh, Matthew and I went to the Liberty Flames vs. JMU Dukes football game on Saturday, and it was really intense! I agreed to frown since my team lost, and Matthew got to smile in excitement since his college team won. :)
This is from a trip up to Snowflex. :)
We have a fun pranking spree in which we sticky a person's area. This is Sonja's area. Each person in my room, and one person down the hall has gotten stickied. I came up with this brilliant, cheap, easy, non-messy prank idea. If you sticky anyone, write a sticky note that gives me credit. *scary face*

That's all for now, folks!

Meet the Friends and Roomies!

This is Kim. She’s my Catholic friend from down the hall. She’s hilarious, she’s a New Yorker, and she’s an awesome friend.

This is Josh. He’s from my brother dorm. He’s a freshman who loves photography. We also have a few mutual friends in Maryland (where he’s from).

This is Christi. She is Kim’s roommate. She’s a great person to talk to, and has an awesome sense of humor. J

This is Caleb. He is from PA, and he went on an Xtreme Impact trip with me to Italy in 2010, so we knew each other before coming to Liberty.

This is my roommate, Colleen. She is from near Richmond, VA (though she’s from NY). She went on an Xtreme Impact trip to the Bahamas, so I was able to meet her shortly before the semester.

This is my other roommate, Sonja. She’s part German, and she lives in Springfield. She’s been such a joy, and always provides a good laugh when homework is getting tough. She’s also amazing at math (she loves it), so she’s been a.w.e.s.o.m.e. by helping me out. J

Learned Things 2

I just wanted to add these pictures because my friends in the above posts wanted to see my "baby pictures". I added the Locks of Love picture so they could see the difference from before. Enjoy while they're up! I'll be taking them down soon after they see them.

D- But still going

Before you say anything, no, I did not get a D-. ;)

During the master session for my communications class 8 classes came together and discussed the importance of communicating. My professor for that class, Dr. Alban said that sometimes we get frustrated with God for not showing us what is going to happen in our life and what His plan is for our life. He said that sometimes we need to go through trials in life in order to grow. We need to work on following God's commandments first and foremost then we can focus on deeper details in life.  He compared this to getting a D- in a class and then expecting to move on to a more advanced class. This is true in life. We want God to tell us everything, but we don't even follow His commands a lot of the time.
We need to work constantly on glorifying God and following His Word.

Learned Things 1

Learned Things, in which I post something that I would teach as a Bible lesson. The type of Bible lessons that really touch me are when people use illustrations that make me go, "Oh wow, that's true. I need to fix that." Thus, I will be using that format for these Learned Things posts.

Beauty

I want you to imagine that you are sitting down to eat a dinner that your mother (or a relative if that fits) just spent hours prepping and cooking and baking. You had entered the dining room in excitement, but then you see the food and you think it just looks like the nastiest thing you've seen in a while. You think to yourself, "This looks kind of gross".
This is an illustration that popped into my head one day when I thought about how often girls get up in the morning, look at themselves in the mirror and go, "Oh my gosh, my hair looks so terrible today!" or "I look so bad...ew!". I was thinking when you look at your mom's meal and go "ew" it's like when you look at God's creation and go "Ew, I wish I had straight/curly hair...". I have a mother who used to say to me, when I didn't like the food I was given "Okay, you don't have to eat then". We learned to be thankful for food in our family. In our lives we need to be thankful for what God created us to look like.
I'm encountering a lot of people here at college, and sometimes I find myself looking at a person and saying, "This person's ______ is kind of strange." And then I'm shocked by how I judge people. My friends that I believe look beautiful look at themselves and groan. It doesn't matter how often I remind them they're gorgeous and Jesus Made, they will judge themselves and others will judge them.
Obviously because of sin we are all corrupted, but we can certainly remember to look upon a person or ourselves and love what God has done in creating us the way we are.

Don't think just because I've been using girls as an example that they're the only ones that this lesson applies to. I've heard some pretty weird stories about how much into their image guys can get. From spending longer on their hair than I do in the morning to looking at their butt in the mirror before they leave in the morning. Seriously, girls aren't the only ones that care about how they look.

It's okay to look presentable, but there's only One person we need to present ourselves to.
